Campus Day
Please join the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the School of Nursing for a fun filled day exploring what University of Michigan has to offer. Student Bios
Ava Jenkins
Current campus involvement: I am involved in many things on campus! At the School of Nursing, I am a junior class Nursing Student Government Representative, a Student Ambassador, a Student Nurses Association member, and a Student Voices member. Outside of the Nursing School, I've been involved in Special Olympics, TEDxUofM, and the Interprofessional Health Student Organization.
Hometown: Brighton, Michigan
Dream job: I think right now it is really hard to say what my dream job is. Something that attracted me to U of M was the diverse clinical experiences you get to have while in the nursing program and I want to see those opportunities through before I set my sights on a specific specialty or position. My biggest goal is to find a supportive work environment that encourages teamwork and clear communication.
Why nursing: I became a nurse because I saw the real impact nurses have on their patients and their patient's perspectives on healthcare after shadowing opportunities I had in high school. It was inspiring to see how a good nurse could change a patient's hospital stay and even guide their plan of care.
Favorite thing about being a U-M student: My favorite thing about being a U of M student is the small-school feel of the nursing school, while still enjoying the Big Ten energy of the University of Michigan Athletics and overarching school spirit.
Madelyn Szczechowski
Current campus involvement: Nursing Student Government Representative, Student Ambassador, Nursing Assistant: Mott Pediatric Oncology/Hematology Infusion Center
Hometown: Wyandotte, Michigan
Dream job: Nurse Practitioner in Pediatric Oncology
Why nursing: My mom & cousin, who both work in the nursing field, inspired me to become a nurse. I hope to impact my patients' lives as much as they have throughout their careers.
Favorite thing about being a U-M student: Everything! But if I had to choose just one, it would be game days in the Big House!
Eric Gaynor
Current campus involvement: I am currently involved with the U-M Student-Run Free Clinic as an Undergraduate Nursing Director, UMSN Student Ambassador, and a member of the Michigan Snowboard Club.
Hometown: Shelby Township, Michigan
Dream job: My dream would be to become a travel ED nurse so I can travel all across the country, gain new experiences, and most importantly, meet new people along the way.
Why nursing: I chose to become a nurse because throughout my childhood I saw the exceptional care they would provide to my family members and the compassion they had. I chose a career that would allow me to impact my patients' lives every time I step into their rooms.
Favorite thing about being a U-M student: My favorite thing about being a student at U-M is being able to attend clinical at one of the most highly touted hospitals in the state, Michigan Medicine, along with being able to cheer on the best football team in the country!
Emma Davidson
Current campus involvement: I am in the Student Nurse Association (SNA), the Honors Nursing Program, and I play Tenor Sax in the Michigan Marching Band and Michigan Hockey Band.
Hometown: Ringoes, New Jersey
Dream job: My dream job is to be a flight nurse! I have been an EMT for the last three years and love being in prehospital emergency situations, so being able to utilize higher acuity nursing skills and interventions in these scenarios will enable me to make an even bigger impact on the health and outcomes of my patients.
Why nursing: I chose to become a nurse to be able to provide compassionate and hands-on care for my patients. I really value how holistic the nursing profession is, and how we learn to take care of the individual and not just their disease.
Favorite thing about being a U-M student: I love the amount of school spirit at this University! You can be almost anywhere in the world and receive a "Go Blue" from a complete stranger when wearing your Michigan gear, and that is something so different and special about this place compared to anywhere else.
Katrina Catabian
Current campus involvement: School of Nursing student ambassador, GIRLS at Michigan Director of Mentorship, Health Sciences Scholars Program, EnCore hip-hop team
Minor: Global Health Studies
Hometown: Woodhaven, Michigan
Dream job: pediatric critical care nurse and, hopefully, go back to school one day to become a nurse anesthetist!
Why nursing: I chose to become a nurse because I love the flexibility of nursing and how each work day is a different day! I love getting to meet and learn from new people, whether that be colleagues, other members of the healthcare team, or the patients & their families.
Favorite thing about being a U-M student: My favorite thing about being a U-M student is all the opportunities there are at this university! We are truly the greatest university in the world. There is balance between the top-notch academics, city scene, and room for your passions and interests. Additionally, I have loved being at the U-M School of Nursing, because we get access to many amazing clinical experiences at Michigan Medicine that have helped shape what I hope to do in the future
STUDENT RESOURCES
Housing
Submit your housing and/or Michigan Learning Community (MLC) applications. Housing applications become available in early April. In early August, you can expect to receive your room and roommate assignments as well as approximate room dimensions. Note: Your enrollment deposit must be paid for you to receive your housing application.
Financial aid
If you think you may need financial aid to attend the University of Michigan, or if you would like to be considered for grants or merit scholarships, you’ll want to fill out the CSS Profile and FAFSA. Plan to complete these before March 1 to ensure your application documents reach us in time.

Registration
You will register for classes during your Nursing Orientation. You will meet with an academic advisor to make your course selections and register for classes. You will not be permitted to register for classes prior to your scheduled orientation date. To get an idea of what your semesters will look like, check out the Program Plan.
COMPLIANCE
All students at the School of Nursing are required to adhere to our compliance requirements: Compliance requirements include but are not limited to CPR certifications, a yearly physical, shots and vaccinations, etc. Our compliance team will reach out soon to give you more details regarding these processes. In the meantime, please feel free to peruse our requirements at your leisure.
