HIIP Innovation Week

Welcome to the HiiP Innovation Week 2024

The U-M School of Nursing Healthcare Innovation Impact Program (HiiP), the hub for nursing innovation at the School, is hosting its second annual Innovation Week from February 5-9, 2024.  This year’s theme is: “Nursing Innovation:  Choices and Challenges”. The week promises to be educational and inspirational, and we hope you find time to participate in some, if not all, of the events we have planned for you in-person, and especially our inaugural Nursing Innovation Conference on February 6th, from 9 am – 5 pm. And for those who can’t attend in person, select events will broadcast via Zoom.

Register now

This week has been designed to fill key knowledge gaps that our faculty and students have told us exist for them when it comes to nursing innovation, and to present some new concepts like design thinking that faculty and students may not even know they should be familiar with when working in the nursing innovation space.  The week, and conference, is packed with innovation and entrepreneurial experts from both within and outside the University; nursing peers who have, or are, working on their own innovations; and resource partners from across campus so you can learn of what’s available to help you move your innovative ideas forward.

Whether you’re a faculty, student, nurse, alumni, or anyone interested in learning more about harnessing and supporting your own, or another nurse’s, innovative spirit and ideas, we look forward to seeing you in person or via Zoom.  This week has been designed for all of us as we strive to make our places of learning and practice spaces where a culture of nursing innovation is growing and thriving.

Why is nursing innovation is important to healthcare?

As a nurse or nursing student, you are embedded in all facets of healthcare. Nurses know better than anyone what patients, their families, fellow nurses, healthcare systems, and the community need--and when these needs are being met vs. where the gaps are. Nurses are also the largest segment of the U.S. healthcare workforce, so they have a critical mass that can be leveraged to create change where and when needed. Importantly, nurses are also closest to the problems patients face.

Yet despite nearly every health system interaction beginning or ending with a nurse, there are relatively few nurses at the innovation table! So HiiP is working to change this by educating and empowering you, as current and future nurses and faculty working with nurses and nursing students, to know what innovation is (it’s broader than you think!) and how to create and bring your idea(s) to market to serve those you intend them to benefit.

HiiP encourages you to take advantage of this innovation week and know that HiiP is always here for you and your innovative ideas.
