Alumna Deployed to Haiti for Humanitarian Aid
Feb 19, 2010Katie Green (BSN ’08), who serves in the US Navy stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, was deployed on the Navy humanitarian mission to Haiti to set up a ground hospital and treat patients. The School of Nursing is proud of Katie's work and thanks her for her service.
Dr. Pohl Listed as AAN "Edge Runner"
Feb 18, 2010Dr. Joanne Pohl was listed in the American Academy of Nursing’s Edge Runners based on the work she does nationally with Nurse Managed Health Centers and the Institute for Nursing.
Dr. Sampson Named Nurse Practitioner of the Year
Feb 12, 2010Dr. Deborah Sampson was awarded the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners State Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award for 2010. Dr. Sampson was also chosen to receive the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner’s Health Policy Research Grant for 2010.

Feb 09, 2010Dr. Richard Redman, along with Dr. Letha Chadiha (U-M School of Social Work), has been funded by the National Institute of Health’s Institute of General Medical Sciences for a project entitled U-M Social Work/Nursing Bridges to the Doctorate. The 3-year project is designed to partner U-M with two other Master’s level institutions with nursing and social work programs (California State University at Los Angeles and Eastern Michigan University) to prepare Master’s students from underrepresented groups to develop research-focused track records and competitive applications to the PhD programs... Student Nurses Association Raised Money for Haitian Peers
Feb 05, 2010On February 4, 2010, the U-M Student Nurses’ Association organized the third annual Hope for Haiti Charity Ball. This charity event aimed to help Haitian nursing students by raising money for the Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti, the country’s only four-year baccalaureate nursing program, which was co-founded by Dr. Ruth Barnard, associate professor emeritus at the U-M School of Nursing. Alumna Receives "Most ABLE" Award
Jan 29, 2010Oakwood Health System announced that Chief Nursing Officer and alumna Barbara Medvec was selected by Operation ABLE of Michigan to receive the “Most ABLE Award.” She was honored for her accomplishments on the job and in the community.
PhD Students Receive Rackham Fellowships
Jan 28, 2010Henna Lee and Jameela Mukhaimer, PhD students, each received a one term dissertation fellowship from Rackham for the Winter 2010 term. The School of Nursing congratulates Henna and Jameela on their awards.
Nursing Students Travel to Liberia
Jan 27, 2010Three graduate nursing students recently traveled to rural Liberia, reporting that their three-week experience was "really an eye-opener." Led by Dr. Jody Lori, the group worked in rural hospitals and clinics to hone their midwife and nursing skills in an impoverished country still recovering from years of civil war.
