Grad Student Receives MNRS Dissertation Research Grant
Mar 31, 2010Yun Ping Lin, doctoral student, received one of the 2010 Midwest Nursing Research Society Dissertation Research Grants which will be awarded at the upcoming MNRS conference in Kansas City, Missouri, May 9-11, 2010.
SNA Raises Over $6,000 for Nursing Students in Haiti
Mar 28, 2010The Student Nurses’ Association third Annual Hope for Haiti Ball which took place on February 20, 2010, raised $6,154. This money will be donated to the Haiti Nursing Foundation to help fund the Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal University of Haiti. The SNA has raised over $18,000 total in the three years of their Annual Hope for Haiti Ball fundraisers.
Dr. Potempa Elected President of the AACN
Mar 23, 2010Dr. Kathleen Potempa, Dean of the School of Nursing, was elected President of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). She will serve a two-year term, beginning March 23, 2010.
Grad Student Participates in AACN Student Policy Summit
Mar 17, 2010Daniel Ochylski, Master’s student in Nursing Business and Health Systems, wrote an award-winning essay entitled, “Nurses Have Solutions.” Daniel received a scholarship to attend the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Student Policy Summit on March 19-21, 2010 in Washington, DC. He had the opportunity to meet members of Congress and advocate for healthcare reform.
U-M Faculty Edit and Featured in Special Publication
Mar 08, 2010A special issue of Research and Theory for Nursing Practice, edited by Dr. Donna Algase (Professor) is focused on “Building Translation Science with Interdisciplinary Research.” This impressive volume was guest edited by Dr. Susan Pressler and Dr. Carolyn Sampselle and features some of the research presentations by U-M faculty and invited speakers who were part of the first Dean’s Research Day last April. This volume certainly speaks to the exceptional faculty and researchers that the School of Nursing is proud to have.
Grad Students Receive Scholarships to Attend Conference

Feb 25, 2010Ruth Zielinski, a recent graduate of the School of Nursing's PhD Program, was selected to receive the ProQuest Distinguished Dissertation Award by the Rackham Graduate School. This annual award is given in recognition of exceptional scholarly work produced by University of Michigan doctoral students. Only eight are awarded by the Graduate School each year, and Ruth is the first School of Nursing doctoral student to receive this high honor. The co-chairs of Ruth's dissertation were Dr. Carolyn Sampselle and Dr. Lisa Kane Low.
Dr. Lavoie Smith's Research Featured in NCI Cancer Bulletin
Feb 23, 2010Dr. Ellen Lavoie Smith’s research on treating pain from chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy was the featured clinical trial in the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Bulletin on February 23, 2010.
