Get to know your faculty: Elissa “Ellie” Wagner
Jan 10, 2017“The first shot I ever gave was to a lamb,” said Ellie Wagner, DNP, RN. “I’m a rural girl and grew up raising farm animals. I think many of those lessons translate really well to nursing. Raising animals teaches important lessons about responsibility, empathy, setting goals and even decision making like which syringe size to use.”
Dr. Wagner now balances family life and raising sheep on a small Washtenaw County farm with her teaching position as a clinical instructor in UMSN’s Undergraduate Nursing program.

U-M School of Nursing adds senior director for diversity, equity and inclusion
Jan 10, 2017The University of Michigan School of Nursing today announced the addition of Rushika Patel, Ph.D., to its staff as the school’s first director for diversity, equity and inclusion. “Our students, faculty and staff will benefit greatly from Rushika’s breadth of experience and knowledge,” commented UMSN Dean Patricia D. MLK Jr. Day events in January: Health Sciences bring Dr. Mosoka Fallah and book dialogue to campus
Jan 05, 2017January means the kick-off to the University of Michigan’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium. This year’s theme is “The Sounds of Change” and pays attention to auditory experiences of change: the cacophony, the hum, the whisper, the dialogue as we bring change into our world. Hillman Scholar Alex Fauer has been selected for a poster presentation at the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress. Fauer’s abstract is entitled “Evaluating oncology nurses safety following antineoplastic drug spills: Case report analysis from a multi-site study.” The work is the result from a research collaboration with UMSN Professor Christopher Friese, PhD, RN, AOCN, FAAN. Fauer took first place in the student category at UMSN’s 2016 Research Day for another collaboration with Dr. Friese, but this will be his first time presenting at a national conference.... Read more

Nov 23, 2016“As a student, I questioned why certain things are included in a course and now I understand much more about the amount of thought and planning that go into each class,” says Alexandra (Aly) Kreiner, a University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) senior.
