March Headlines: Calls for Action, a New Online Program, and Major Awards

UMSN stays active in nursing education, diversity, research, policy, and practice.

“Diversity is critical to the profession from many perspectives,” University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) Dean Kathleen Potempa Ph.D., RN, FAAN, explains in Nursezone.com’s The Changing Face of Nursing: Diversity Increasing Slowly. She said it’s the key to “better match the changing face of U.S. demographics; to provide diversity of thought, life experience and culture in health policy and decision making; and to provide opportunity to all Americans to participate in the health professions, an enduring job sector in the U.S.”

UMSN Professor Anne Sales, Ph.D., RN, shares “Reflections on the State of Nursing Implementation Science” in her editorial published in the International Journal of Nursing Studies. “We consider this special issue one small signal to nurse researchers about the importance, quality, and value of research currently being conducted in nursing implementation science,” says Dr. Sales. “We urge IJNS readers to engage with these papers, consider their merits, and debate the areas left unexplored.”

UMSN proudly announces a new graduate-level post-baccalaureate certificate program in Clinical Research Management. This online 4-course program can be completed in less than a year. It’s designed to deliver key competencies for investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research. Registration is now open, and the first course begins July 1, 2013.
