  • Career Development/Mentoring

Dr. Hershberger leads an elite team of transdisciplinary investigators and highly skilled clinicians in assisted reproduction to advance knowledge about the link between factors that impact decision-making processes and health behaviors, especially among stigmatized or under-represented minority groups. Findings from Dr. Hershberger’s research have informed national and international clinical practice guidelines and policies in assisted reproduction. For example, in a series of studies including a 12-year longitudinal study, Dr. Hershberger identified and verified the Decision-Making Process Model that details underlying decision mechanisms among individuals and couples as they contemplate novel medical treatment or consider behavior change. Using this model as a guide, Dr. Hershberger and her team are currently creating and testing scalable digital interventions (e.g., TELL Tool) to determine if these interventions can improve the health and well-being of individuals and families created through assisted reproduction.

Other contributions to science and the nursing profession include Dr. Hershberger’s research and leadership to advance the scholarship and careers of students, post-doctoral fellows, and early and midcareer faculty. She is also a thought leader and frequent methodological consultant on the pedagogy and implementation of structured (e.g., integrative, systematic) literature reviews.
