Student spotlight: Lessons in leadership and student government

Angela Rysdyk is taking on her senior year at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) with a lot of goals. She’s balancing the usual senior year intentions, like finishing with high grades and preparing for the nursing board exam, with leading the UMSN student body as Nursing Student Government (NSG) president.

Diane Accurso brings a wealth of project management and employee instruction/training experience to UMSN, including expertise in global and corporate settings. MNRS/SAGE best student paper award goes to UMSN alum

Clayton Shuman, Ph.D, RN, recent UMSN alum, won the Midwest Nursing Research Society/SAGE best student paper for a paper he wrote with Dr. Marita Titler and Dr. Robert Ploutz-Snyder. 

"Development and Testing of the Nurse Manager EBP Competency Scale" was published by the Western Journal of Nursing Research. The paper was written while Shuman was a Ph.D. student. He has now joined the faculty at UMSN as assistant professor.

UMSN alumna named AACN Distinguished Research Lecturer

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) recently selected Margaret L. “Meg” Campbell, Ph.D., RN, FPCN, as its 2018 Distinguished Research Lecturer. It is one of AACN's highest individual honors. Campbell is a 2006 graduate of UMSN's Ph.D. program. 

The award recognizes nurses whose research significantly influences high acuity and critical care. UMSN receives grant for visionary brain mapping project

When the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced an opportunity for “bold and risky” projects aimed at finding new ways to understand the complexities of the human brain and behavior, University of Michigan School of Nursing Professor Ivo Dinov, Ph.D., and a team of colleagues were ready to take on the challenge.

The Alumni Society Board of Governors of the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) and UMSN have named Joanne Disch, Ph.D., RN, FAAN, the inaugural 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award winner.

Incoming freshman and award-winning scientist sets sights on clinical experiences

Most students wait until after they’ve started college to pursue an internship, but incoming freshman Rashad Prendergast got a jumpstart on his research experiences. 

He won an all-expenses-paid internship at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rivohot, Israel, and spent July working in an immunology lab with interns from around the world.

Alumna serves working class communities through occupational health

The first in her family to go to college, Ariana Spiewak, MSN, FNP-C, knew she wanted a career that let her engage with working class populations. A recent alumna (MSN 2017) from the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) primary care family nurse practitioner program with a concentration in occupational health nursing, she does just that through her work at an urgent care clinic in the northern Michigan town of Petoskey, Michigan.

Linda R. Cronenwett, Ph.D., RN, FAAN was recently named as one of five Living Legends by the American Academy of Nursing (AAN). This is the AAN's highest honor.

Faculty impact: An advocate for teens, an adversary of human trafficking

Michelle Pardee’s career is not what she envisioned as an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) nearly 30 years ago.
