SOCR Lab researchers re-purpose SOCR Web-based BrainViewer to render SARS-CoV-2 virus
In April 2020, the SOCR Lab researchers repurposed the SOCR Web-based BrainViewer, developed to display multimodal brain data, atlases, and tractography models, to now render SARS-CoV-2 virus (novel coronavirus causing COVID-19 disease). This stereotactic visualization framework allow exploring the 3D structure of the viral capsid and its envelope, as well as illustrate its relation to the host cell topology and cell-receptor sites. Attached are some renditions showing the inside and the outside of the SARS-CoV-2 capsid, and the cell membrane it is penetrating. Researchers can view this 3D scene, as well as upload their own 3D models in the SOCR Viewer directly on the website.
