Call for Proposals: UMSN Center Looking for Bold Ideas
$25,000 available for each pilot/feasibility study on chronic diseases.
“We are looking for innovative projects that test new ideas about self-management of chronic disease using complex data,” says Ivo Dinov, PhD, a University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) Associate Professor and co-director of the Center for Complexity and Self-management of Chronic Disease (CSCD).
Funded by a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), the CSCD is focused on preventing and managing chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer, with an emphasis on people with multiple conditions. Dr. Dinov and Debra L. Barton, RN, PhD, AOCN, FAAN, UMSN’s Mary Lou Willard French Professor of Nursing serve as co-primary investigators for the grant based in the School of Nursing.
The Pilot Projects core of the CSCD is intended to expand the quantity and quality of funded investigators dedicated to improving health outcomes in those with chronic diseases. University of Michigan researchers are invited to submit a one-page abstract by April 1, 2015, for the CSCD’s second round of pilot/feasibility studies. Some abstracts will be invited to submit full proposals. Of those, two proposals will be selected and will receive $25,000 each over two years.
Currently funded projects are “An Evaluation of Mobile Care App as Self-Management Tool in Patients with Left-Ventricular Assist Devices” and “An Underutilized Pathway to Reducing Adolescent Obesity: Translating the Results of Adult-oriented Interventions into Their Children’s Obesity-related Behaviors and Outcomes.”
