UMSN Associate Dean Named Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow at Australian Catholic University

The research partnership will focus on heart failure and cognitive impairment.

Susan J. Pressler, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAHA, will embark on a two-week fellowship to Australian Catholic University (ACU) next year. The appointment is with the National Centre for Clinical Outcomes Research (NaCCOR) Faculty of Health Sciences.

Dr. Pressler’s visit to the Melbourne campus will contain a full schedule of research presentations, workshops, a video-conference, and work on several research publications. In addition, she’ll attend events with students to provide insight into developing early-career research pathways to show how reviews of healthcare research can enlighten both research and practice.

The ACU Distinguished Visiting Research Fellowship program was created for collaboration, consultation and participation in research. Dr. Pressler was selected for her expertise in chronic care of vulnerable populations, specifically her work with heart failure patients. Heart failure affects more than 300,000 Australians and its prevalence is expected to rise, according to the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council.

Dr. Pressler will work closely with ACU researchers to plan an intervention study that will evaluate a new model of care for heart failure patients, intended to improve prospective memory and self-care. Additional focus will be on the health and well-being of the caretakers of heart failure patients.

The fellowship will take place in August 2013.
