“I have seen patients struggle with their treatments and wanted my research to improve care for future patients.”

UMSN’s Christopher R. Friese, PhD, RN, AOCN®, FAAN leads Oncology Nursing Workshop for TalkAboutHealth.

Experts in various health fields provide verified, quality information to people with chronic health conditions, primarily cancer, via the TalkAboutHealth website. Dr. Friese served as the expert for an Oncology Nursing Workshop, one of the website’s frequent workshops. He answered a series of questions from the public about cancer, bone marrow transplants, and more.

Dr. Friese discussed options for patients to consider when deciding on cancer centers for treatment. He also addressed habits for cancer patients to use to prevent infections, preparing for a bone marrow transplant, and the responsibilities of nurses caring for cancer patients.

One of the reasons I love transplant nursing is the complexity of the care we provide,” said Dr. Friese. “….It's really special to spend so much time with these patients and families. We always love to hear from them after they are discharged to home. The bulletin boards are full of cards and photos of our patients as they celebrate milestones and holidays.”
