UMSN Event Focuses on Student Safety
As part of the University Michigan School of Nursing’s ongoing efforts to protect students, U-M police officer Garry Veld was invited to give his presentation, “See Something, Say Something.”
The students learned practical tips for protecting their valuables, as well as safety tips to protect themselves. Officer Veld explained situations where the students are most vulnerable, such as walking alone at night, and how to avoid being a target for criminals.
Officer Veld also educated the students how to be a good witness if they see a crime in progress or witnesses suspicious behavior. He explained the information police officers and emergency dispatchers will need, such as location, direction of travel, and suspect descriptions.
Students who were unable to attend the presentation can review safety tips on the U-M police department website.
