U-M School of Nursing Awarded Grant for Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program
Program prepares nurses with doctoral degrees
The Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence has awarded the University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) a grant for the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholars Program for 2012. Launched in 2008, with six scholars in three states, the program now includes more than 200 students at nearly 85 schools across the US. The program was created to prepare nurses with doctoral degrees and create new models of care delivery between schools of nursing and clinical settings.
“This award is critical in supporting graduate education in nursing and preparing the next generation of nurse leaders in healthcare and policy,” said Dr. Susan Pressler, associate dean, University of Michigan School of Nursing, Graduate Studies.
The program provides financial support, leadership development, and mentoring of doctoral students. The UMSN Jonas scholar will be part of an elite group of 250 Jonas Nurse Leaders in the United States.
The scholar will be selected based on her or his commitment to a career as faculty or leader in primary care. As part of the program, the Jonas scholar will work closely with a designated leadership mentor and complete a leadership project. The scholar will also have the opportunity to attend the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence/AACN Leadership Development Conference in 2013.
