Dr. Pohl Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF)
NONPF recognizes Dr. Pohl’s career of leadership and scholarly expertise through this prestigious award.
In recognition of Dr. Joanne Pohl’s considerable contributions to the field and to healthcare as a whole, the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF) honored her with their Lifetime Achievement Award on Thursday, April 14 at the thirty-seventh National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico. NONPF is the only organization whose primary objective is to promote the highest quality education for nurse practitioners (NPs) at the national and global levels.
Each year, the organization’s board of directors selects an honoree whose contributions have been “visionary and stalwart in successfully developing and promoting the role of the nurse practitioner,” says Kitty Werner, executive director of NONPF. “Dr. Pohl was selected for the award for her extensive work in nurse practitioner education, policy, and research. Her tireless efforts to promote nurse managed health centers and to collect data on the populations they serve has been invaluable to gaining national recognition of their contributions to primary care and healthcare to underserved populations,” explains Werner. Werner concludes by saying that throughout her career, Dr. Pohl has been a leading policy advocate as well, working with state and national policy makers in support of key legislation promoting the role of nurse practitioners, serving on governmental panels as a representative of the nurse and nurse practitioner perspective in changing healthcare models.
