U-M Nursing Faculty Plentiful at CANS Congress
Faculty attended this week's CANS Congress as participants, presenters, and even Program Chair.
Earlier this week, the School of Nursing’s own Dr. Antonia Villarruel acted as Program Chair of the 2010 State of the Science Congress on Nursing Research presented by the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science (CANS). Taking place in Washington, D.C. September 27-29, the Congress brought together hundreds of nurse leaders. According to a Congress brochure, “The biennial event [provides] a forum for communicating emerging innovations in nursing science and an opportunity for nurse scientists to dialogue about current research in nursing and health care. Developing nurse scientists [have] the opportunity to network, build their research skills, and to hear from some of the best in the discipline. The State of the Science Congress provides the only opportunity for nurse scientists across the nation and across many areas of inquiry to explore common interests.”
Among her many duties as Program Chair, Dr. Villarruel was responsible for the general coordination of the Congress as well as organizing the plenary sessions, a highlight of the schedule. In addition to Dr. Villarruel’s integral role within the Congress, the University of Michigan School of Nursing was also well represented by the numerous faculty and Research Fellows who were in attendance as both presenters and participants. These faculty included:
